A grand or intimate wedding?
Growing up, I had this notion in my head that I’ll have this biggest, grandest wedding that I could afford. In my senior year in high school, our teacher asked us to write down our ‘dream wedding’ and I remember writing that I will have about 1,000 guests and have this big, flouncy wedding gown, the fabric big enough to cover the whole church (haha) and all that.
Fast forward to 11 years later and my ‘dream wedding’ was opposite to my real wedding. It was intimate (well, by Asian standards anyway) with only 110 of our closest family and friends. Budget constraints got something to do with trimming down the guest list but even in hindsight, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I enjoyed having the chance to say hello to all the guests since it was small enough for me to do so. I enjoyed being able to see all my guests from where I was seated. I enjoyed knowing that those whom we invited and came were people we love and have kept in touch through the years and not long lost relatives and friends who we felt obliged to invite because they’re ‘family’ or because they invited us to their wedding.
What about you? What kind of wedding do you want?

I just read “Shopoholic Ties the Knot” and, to be truthful, and lingering doubts I may have had over my own simple wedding, are now ended. I don’t think I missed out on anything anymore! Every bride to be should read that book to get some perspective on what it means to be a family.

Finances aside, intimate seem to fit the celebration.
