British Honeymoon Ideas

by Shai Coggins on May 24th, 2005

My husband and I celebrated our three-week honeymoon in the UK. It was a self-drive trip that my hubby planned. It was my first ever European trip, and I had a great time. I’ll probably talk and write more about this as I go along. But, for now, I’d like to share some honeymoon ideas to anyone who may be considering a British honeymoon:

1) London is a must-stop. It’s not my favourite city, but it’s still very exciting to see and to experience. If you can manage to go to Scotland, then you must see Edinburgh. It is just gorgeous!

2) Whether you’re a history buff or not, stop by a few historic sites, landmarks and monuments. With the UK being the UK, you’ll never run out of places to see.

3) To fulfill some childhood of princesses and knights, make sure you visit a castle or two. Perhaps, even stately homes and houses. Even out-of-the-way castles like Alnwick and Bamburgh can be pretty charming. Make sure you check the opening times. Some of these places are sometimes closed during the winter, weekdays or weekends.

4) Go and watch a theatre production! It is just so amazing to watch a play or musicale in one or more of the wonderful British theatres. This is actually my most favourite thing to do in London. If you stop by Stratford-upon-Avon, then perhaps, watching a Shakespearean play would be in order.

5) Enjoy the cities. Walking on the streets, taking the tube and all these “normal” things may not seem so exciting to the locals. But, if you’ve never been to the UK, it’s definitely something to experience. Just make sure you stay safe. :-)

6) Even if you’re not a drinker, make sure you visit a British pub. There’s nothing quite like them.

I’m sure I’ll come up with more of these tips and ideas, so stay tuned.
