Tips for a successful wedding
Having gone through my own wedding, I can relate to the tips below…I hope you find them useful too!
* LISTEN BEFORE BOOKING. Recommendations from past clients are the most reliable way to find a good band. Ask to speak to the last five people they’ve done events for.
* BE FLEXIBLE with the date. Couples have been known to change their big day, so they can book their favorite band.
* CUT COSTS by hiring an outstanding deejay and just using a small live music component, like a jazz trio, during the cocktail hour.
* COLLABORATE with your fiancé on your play list. Think about what it means to you: When and where you met and the music that has influenced you.
* SOLVE DISAGREEMENTS by using your deejay or bandleader as a mediator to help you make the final selection. Only a music professional knows what will work in front of 250 people. It’s like having a counselor.”
* SOUND-TEST your venue. Some locations look gorgeous, but from a live music perspective, they’re horrible. Don’t skimp on sound equipment and engineers, which your band or venue should be able to recommend.
* GO CLASSICAL to add elegance and sophistication to your big day. If your budget won’t stretch to a string section, use a keyboardist or a pianist at the ceremony.
* TAILOR YOUR FAVORITE SONGS. “I love to personalize traditional songs by changing the lyrics,” says Denard. Favorites include “The Blower’s Daughter” by Damien Rice, “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green and “Close to You” by the Carpenters.”
* DON’T BE AFRAID to experiment. For one ceremony, Denard did “The Blower’s Daughter” as a vocal piece, followed by some instrumental U2, then a classical segment.
* TRUST YOUR BAND to get the party started. “I look for the most miserable person in the [room] and aim to get them going; then, everyone else is a piece of cake,” says Denard.

For our wedding in May, we hired High School Students to play during the ceremony. Also, look into a Youth Orchestra Group or a near by College Group. College Facility will also play during your ceremony. Our 4 piece ensemble cost less than $200.
