Tips to Wedding Registries

While planning for our wedding almost 6 years ago, I didn’t have the added stress of worrying about wedding registries. After all, my then fiance and I were getting married in my hometown in Manila and settling down in New Zealand. I knew no one would dream of giving anything bulky to ship back to NZ.

However, I know from the experience of my girlfriends, wedding registries can be a nightmare that you don’t need on top of preparing for your wedding. Do you really need a full set of pots and pans when you don’t know how to cook? What kind of toaster do you want? Do you really need a food mixer? Would you really dabble in baking?

I found these tips on Pocono Record that may help you before registering.

Go online first. Research your options. Look at prices. Maybe you will want two registries — one expensive, one inexpensive.

Go in person to the store. See how user-friendly they make registering. Many places give you kits and coupons.

Check out your local library. Libraries and bookstores carry a wealth of information in planning and budgeting books, which are sure to have a chapter dedicated to registering. My favorite is “The Anti-Bride Guide” by Carolyn Gerin and Stephanie Rosenbaum.

Think outside the box. Registries at Macy’s or Linens N’ Things are tried and true, but now places such as Home Depot and smaller department stores such as Kohl’s and Target are getting in on the deal. Why not register at Coleman if you love camping?
