Wedding Gown - White is Out

Well, that’s according to Amanda Moore, 25 who is getting married in June of this year.
According to her,
She intends to wear a black gown with pink daisy accents. Black, she says, is slimming, and pink matches a special necklace from her great-grandmother. “My mother-in-law was the only one who was, like, ‘Oh, my gosh, you have to call the church and make sure it’s OK’.” (She did. It is.)
I don’t think she’s the only one. I see a growing trend in adding colour to one’s wedding gowns among my friends who have recently gotten married. Even my sister who is getting married early next year plan to have her wedding motiff incorporated into her gown.
David’s Bridal, a popular wedding gown retailer says that 20% of their gowns on offer are in colour other than white. The stores now carry 32 accent hues, including apple red and pool blue. (Toni DeLisi, owner of Memorable Events in Ramsey, N.J., says half of her brides accent with colors like ice blue.) There is color in 16 of 31 gowns in Vera Wang’s spring ‘06 collection.

Cruising the networks blogs today :D
This post caught my eye because my wedding dress wasn’t ‘traditional white’. It was somewhat traditional in style (fitted bodice, poofy skirt with short train, off-the-shoulder straps with fabric roses). The dress was a pale ivory. The roses alternated between ivory and black. the bustle-poof in the back had black roses at the points where the skirt was tacked. The bodice had thin vertical strips of black, to give it a striped look. :)
That was just over four years ago, but I do remember there being a handful of gowns with a main color other than white or ivory.

That sounds pretty Deb! I think this is a beautiful dress, but it would certainly look MUCH better if the bride actually looked happy.

I have ordered a black wedding dress. It had to be custom made, but I’m sure any bridal shop that offers custom designs WILL have an option of black. And black is easier than say cranberry or periwinkle (there are SOO many interpretations of the color cranberry or periwinkle). My dress cost $1,800.00 but it’s breathtaking! I found mine at Alta Moda Bridal in Utah. Hope i could help out!

I KNOW WHERE THE BLACK WEDDING DRESSES ARE! foreverbridals.com (aka Forever Yours) There’s gotta be at least 30 dresses I found that are offered in all black, just look for the color listings next to the dress thumbnails. They also offer many color accents/bow/trains on white dresses. Very pretty.

I got married in Black & Red! It was so elegant, yet unusual. My parents complained at the idea [nothing new there!], but on the day, EVERYONE was blown away!
I found a website that had some great black & red accessories. http://www.alittleblackshop.co.uk
